Compromise of 1850
The Compromise of 1850 was issued mainly dealing with the concern of California and whether or not they will be a slave or a free state. Many major voices voiced their concern like Calhoun, Taylor, Fillmore, Webster and Clay. Though Henry Clay decided to go a step further by making a compromise. The North will get California as a free state, make slave trade illegal in DC and Texas loses boundary dispute with New Mexico. In return the South got no slave restrictions in Utah and New Mexico, got to hold slaves in DC, Texas get $10 million dollars and the Fugitive Slave Law was applied. Though the North seemed to get the better end of the deal due to the new territory of California being part of the Union. This helped rile the South up along with the North incorporation to follow the Fugitive Slave Law, which helped lead to the Civil War.
